"Clean" Buckets

Have you ever been working on a house cleaning project (let's say... cleaning a bathroom) only to realize an item you need is, in fact, two flights of stairs from where you are? I have. A lot. Call me lazy, but I would just much rather NOT have to haul things all over the house with me when I'm cleaning- or worse- get out of my 'zone' to find a missing piece. Solution? Meet the clean bucket. A few months ago, I discovered the Dollar Tree and have since become a little obsessed big fan. I'm also a bulk purchaser of cleaning supplies at Costco. I made 4 buckets and lucky for me, I was able to get 4-pack bundles of toilet cleaner, a package of 12 scrubbing pads, a giant bottle of Windex & some "Mr. Clean" magic erasers.

Supplies:

  • 4 buckets/bins from Dollar Tree/your house/where ever you wish
  • Spray bottles, canisters etc. to hold your supplies (Again, Dollar Tree for me!)
  • Reusable cleaning rags (I make mine out of 'well loved' burp cloths & t-shirts)
  • Bulk containers of your favorite cleaning products or make your own
  • Grocery bags. (I line my trash cans around the house with them- makes collecting the trash once a week a whole lot faster.)
To do:
  • LABEL your spray bottles/containers. I didn't do this and my sweet husband just grabbed the first bottle he saw once and ended up putting my shower vinegar/dish soap mixture all over the mirror. That was sort of a mess.
  • DIVIDE the bulk items between your buckets
  • Give them a home. Ours live in each of our bathrooms.
Perks:
  • Everything you need is in one place
  • You have refillable containers so you can just buy the bulk size (generally cheaper) and refill
  • With your supplies living in a plastic bucket, if something spills, you can just rinse out one bucket  (in the tub!) instead of scrubbing an entire cabinet/drawer
  • Others living in your house can't claim they don't know where the supplies are kept. Delegate!

I learned that it is best to "work smarter, not harder" from one of my professors/mentors in college. Now I'm able to quickly clean a bathroom and don't even have to haul supplies all over the house.

This is our kitchen bucket. Nothing fancy-
it just keeps the products we use most easy to grab
and keeps the bottom of our cabinet clean and
spill-free.
